STOLE

MATERILAS: Yarn CELLINI – Laines du Nord 2 X 150 gr, needles 3,5, and 4 mm, colour n. 2

GAUGE: cm 10×10 = 23 stitches and 31 rows

STITCHES: Stocking st., 1/1 rib st. (Right Side rows: * Knit 1, Purl 1 *; Wrong Side rows: work stitches as they appear)

ABBREVIATIONS: K= knit, P= purl, RS= right side; WS= wrong side.

NOTE

This garment is worked back and forth. It’s worked in one piece using alternately two balls of the same yarn to have the same shades on both sides. The almost total absence of seams give an excellent fit and softness to the garment. At the end sleeves are worked separately and sewn at the open stole.

Start working with 1 ball and use it up to half stole; keep the left over yarn aside. On the second half of the stole use the second ball taking care to remove the same amount of yarn left over from the first ball, being careful about the color of the yarn.

With the left over yarn knit the sleeves and the rib edges.

INSTRUCTIONS:

With needles 4 mm cast on 80 stitches and work 8 rows in 1/1 rib st.

Row 9° (RS): work 4 sts in 1/1 rib st.; K 72, work 4 sts in 1/1 rib st.

WS rows: work stitches as they appear.

Keep working in this way until the piece measures 30 cm.

For the next 24 cm work as follows:

RS rows: 4 sts in 1/1 rib st. (part of the neck) K to the end.

WS rows: work stitches as they appear.

(piece measures now 56 cm)

Now add new stitches on the side without 1/1 rib st.: at the beginning of the row cast on 55 sts (135 total sts).

Then increase on RS rows (always on the side without 1/1 rib st) as follows: 1 st every 2 rows for the next 20 cm; then 1 st every 3 rows for the next 10 cm.

Work for the next 9 cm without increasing as follows:

RS rows: 4 sts in 1/1 rib st., K to the end.

WS rows: work stitches as they appear.

This is the first half of the stole. Change the ball, taking care to remove the same amount of yarn left over from the first ball of yarn used.

SECOND HALF of the piece. Work for the next 9 cm as follows:

RS rows: 4 sts in 1/1 rib st., K to the end.

WS rows: work stitches as they appear.

Now decrease (always on the side without 1/1 rib st) as follows: 1 st every 3 rows for the next 10 cm., then 1 st every 2 rows for the next 20 cm.

Cast off 55 stitches on the side without 1/1 rib st.

For the next 24 cm work as follows:

WS rows: work stitches as they appear.

Work 8 rows in 1/1 rib st.

Cast off all stitches.
